The 10 Signs Jesus Gave About The End Times

Jesus laid out the last days in one chapter of the Bible, Matthew 24. He gave ten signs. Here is where we stand on every one of them.

Sign #1: False Christs And False Prophets

"For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many."Matthew 24:5

Understand who He was saying this to.

Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, and His own apostles came to Him privately and asked Him one question: "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?" (Matthew 24:3).

These were the twelve men who had watched Him still a storm and raise the dead. If anyone on earth was impossible to fool about who Jesus was, it was them.

And the first thing He answered was not wars. Not earthquakes. It was a warning to those twelve men that men would come claiming His name, and would fool people.

John was sitting there that day. Years later he wrote it down plainly: "Now many antichrists have appeared. This is how we know it is the last hour" (1 John 2:18).

They have already come. You lived through three of them.

That is why Jesus put this sign before all the others. Before the wars, before the famines, before the earthquakes: "See to it that no one deceives you."

Those three are only the ones that made the news. There have been hundreds of others, and there are men doing it right now with bigger audiences than any of them ever had.

Because deception just got a weapon no century before ours had. AI.

Sign #2: Wars And Rumors Of Wars

"You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom."Matthew 24:6-7

USA vs Iran. Russia vs Ukraine. Israel vs Palestine.

Every night there's something new on the news. Another heinous attack. Another country striking another.

Whichever side you're on doesn't matter. However heartbreaking it is, it's happening.

And this is not new. Men have been killing each other over the holy land for nearly two thousand years, since the century Jesus walked it.

Holy wars. Fought over the same few miles of ground, in every generation, by people who all believed God was on their side.

What is new is the number. There are more wars burning on this earth right now than in any year on record.

More armed conflicts at the same time than at any point since the Second World War.

And it isn't just political. It's spiritual. It's biblical.

Sign #3: Famines, Pestilences, And Earthquakes

"There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains."Matthew 24:7-8

Remember March of 2020?

COVID-19 shut down the entire world. Within weeks, more than half the people on earth were ordered to stay inside their homes. Churches locked their doors on Easter Sunday. Hospitals parked refrigerated trucks outside to hold the dead.

More than seven million deaths were officially reported worldwide, and the World Health Organization says the real number was far higher. In America alone, more than a million people died.

Then, on February 6th, 2023, the ground opened up in Turkey and Syria. A magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit in the middle of the night, while families slept. Nine hours later, a second one, magnitude 7.5. Whole cities came down. More than fifty thousand people were killed.

Then the food. Bird flu wiped out tens of millions of laying hens. By March of 2025, a dozen eggs cost a record $6.23 on average, and stores were limiting how many cartons you could carry out. Tariffs and trade wars pushed the grocery bill higher every month.

Right now the United Nations counts hundreds of millions of people facing acute hunger.

Plague. Earthquake. Famine. In various places, one right after another.

Sign #4: Wickedness Increasing, And Love Growing Cold

"At that time many will fall away and will betray and hate one another... Because of the multiplication of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold."Matthew 24:10-12

Look at what He put right before the love goes cold. Betray one another. Hate one another.

It starts in families. It always has.

Paul wrote down the same days for Timothy, and the list is so exact it is uncomfortable to read out loud.

"In the last days terrible times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good, traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power."2 Timothy 3:1-5

Read it again slowly, because it is a description of an average Tuesday.

Lovers of themselves. A whole culture built on the camera pointed at your own face.

Unloving. The King James calls it "without natural affection." The love a mother has for her child, the love a grown son has for his father. Not weakened. Absent. Parents put away and never visited. Grandparents who have not heard a voice in a year.

Lovers of money. Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Look at what this country actually bows to.

Money first and money last, and no amount is ever enough. Pornography in the pocket of nearly every man in your church, and most of the boys in it. Women treated as something to be used, rated and thrown back. Anything you want, delivered, streamed, swiped, and forgotten by morning.

Nobody calls any of that worship. That is exactly what makes it worship.

Slanderous. This is the one aimed straight at you.

Say one thing your Bible plainly says, out loud, with your name attached to it. Within the hour you are not a Christian with an unpopular belief. You are a hater. A bigot. Dangerous.

A crowd forms. The screenshot travels. Strangers who have never met you tell the world what kind of man you are, and not one of them stops to ask whether any of it is true. People have lost jobs over it. Businesses have closed over it.

Slanderous. False accusers. That is Paul, writing nineteen hundred years ago.

Having a form of godliness but denying its power. This is the one that should frighten church people, because it is not about the world at all. It is about us.

Hands up on Sunday morning. Then Monday through Saturday lived as though God is not real. Not rebellion. Nothing that dramatic. The Bible back on the shelf, untouched, until next Sunday.

Jesus explained exactly how that happens, and He used dirt to do it.

"Some fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly because the soil was shallow. But when the sun rose, the seedlings were scorched, and they withered because they had no root."Matthew 13:5-6

Read that again, because almost everyone misses it. On shallow ground the seed comes up faster than anywhere else in the field. It is the quickest growth in the whole parable.

And then: "But since he has no root, he remains for only a season" (Matthew 13:21).

Say this prayer after me and you are saved. Fill out the connect card on your way out.

There is nothing wrong with the prayer, and nothing wrong with the card. But a thirty second decision with nothing underneath it is the stony ground Jesus was describing. It springs up fast, and when the sun comes up, and the sun always comes up, there is no root to hold it.

Not because the person was a fraud. Because nobody ever gave them anything deep enough to root into.

And underneath all of it, the thing the prophets called out loudest.

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who turn darkness to light and light to darkness."Isaiah 5:20

Not just doing wrong. Renaming it.

Look at what this generation has done with the seven deadly sins. Not one of them was repented of. Every single one of them was given a new name, and then celebrated.

1. We celebrate pride.
2. We normalize lust.
3. We disguise envy as ambition.
4. We justify wrath as passion.
5. We glorify greed as hustle.
6. We laugh at gluttony and indulge it.
7. We ignore sloth and call it self-care.

And the rename nobody can argue with: we call abortion healthcare.

Or look at what happened in Massachusetts. A mother strangled her three children. Cora was five. Dawson was three. Callan was eight months old.

Her own lawyers do not dispute that she did it.

Woe to those who call evil good.

Jesus said the last days would look like one specific moment in all of history.

"As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man."Matthew 24:37

And here is what God saw when He looked at the days of Noah: "The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great upon the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was altogether evil all the time" (Genesis 6:5).

It sure seems like we are living in those days right now.

Sign #5: Persecution Of Believers

"Then they will deliver you over to be persecuted and killed, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name."Matthew 24:9

When you hear that verse you think of somewhere else. Prison camps in North Korea. Churches burned in Nigeria. That is all real, and it is happening while you read this.

But look at your own country. The USA.

Try saying the name of Jesus out loud at work.

Not preaching. Not arguing with anybody. Just saying that you believe the Bible is true, in a meeting, at a company party, online with your real name on it.

Silence.

Then somebody says it, politely, the way you would correct a child. "Let's not get religious or biblical here. This is work."

Nobody says that about anything else.

And it is not just your office. It is everywhere they point a camera.

Watch a football game. A man drops to his knees in the end zone, and the broadcast cuts away. Both teams kneel together at midfield after the final whistle, and the network goes to commercial. A young man opens his interview with "first I want to thank my Lord and Savior," and the clip that runs tonight starts one sentence later.

Count the hours of television you can sit through before anyone says the name of Jesus without it being a punchline, a swear word, or a villain's costume.

Now remember what this country was when it started.

The Declaration of Independence says your rights come from your Creator, not from any government. Congress has opened with prayer since 1789. "In God we trust" is the national motto, written into federal law and printed on the money in your wallet.

Then in 1962 the Supreme Court ended prayer in the public schools. The next year, Bible reading went with it. In 1980 the Ten Commandments were ordered off the classroom walls.

A nation founded on it, and one lifetime spent editing Him out of it.

Grandparents who taught Sunday school for thirty years now sit quietly at their own dinner table, because they have learned that saying grace too sincerely will start an argument with their own grandchildren.

Nobody had to arrest you. They just made the name expensive to say.

"You will be hated by all nations because of My name."Matthew 24:9

Not for your politics. Not for your party. For the name.

And He told His disciples to expect exactly this.

"If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first."John 15:18

Sign #6: The Gospel Preached In All The World

"And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."Matthew 24:14

This is the sign nobody talks about, and it is the one that should get your attention most.

Because it is the only sign Jesus attached to a deadline. Then the end will come.

For nineteen hundred years it was impossible. Whole nations had never heard the name.

Today the full Bible has been translated into more than seven hundred languages, and some portion of Scripture into more than three thousand. More than five billion people carry a device that can reach the Gospel in about four seconds.

For the first time since Jesus said those words, that sign can actually be finished.

Sign #7: The Appearance Of The Antichrist, And Great Tribulation

"For at that time there will be great tribulation, unseen from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be seen again."Matthew 24:21

"The man of lawlessness—the son of destruction—is revealed. He will oppose and exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship. So he will seat himself in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God."2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

Start with what Scripture actually says he is, because most people have it wrong.

He is not a monster. Paul says he walks into the temple of God and sits down, "proclaiming himself to be God." A man the world receives. That is the point of him.

And John, who wrote Revelation, said the spirit of it was already loose in his own lifetime: "which is already in the world at this time" (1 John 4:3).

Now here is the verse almost no Christian has read, because it sits in a book that was taken out of the Bible in 1826.

"And even he shall rule, whom they look not for that dwell upon the earth."2 Esdras 5:6

A ruler nobody is expecting. Written down before Christ was born, in a book your grandmother's Bible had and yours does not.

Then there is the part John saw about how that man takes hold of ordinary life.

"So that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark."Revelation 13:17

Read that as a farmer in 1850 would have read it. Control every purchase, of every person, everywhere on earth, at once? There was no machine on earth that could do it. For nineteen centuries that verse described something impossible.

It is not impossible now.

In Sweden, cash has nearly disappeared from daily life. In India, more than a billion people are enrolled in a single national digital ID. In 2024 the European Union passed a law to give every citizen a digital identity wallet. In Canada in 2022, the government ordered banks to freeze the accounts of protesters and the people who had donated to them, and the banks did it, without a judge.

Notice what that last one proves. Not that it will happen. That the switch exists, and that it works.

Your money is already a number on a screen that somebody else maintains. One locked account and you cannot buy food tonight.

No century before this one could have run the verse. Ours can.

Sign #8: Signs In The Sky

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky.’"Matthew 24:29

On April 8th, 2024, the sun went out over America in the middle of the day. Millions of people stood in the street and watched the sky go dark.

A month later, the strongest solar storm in more than twenty years hit the earth. The northern lights, which most Americans will never see in their lifetime, burned red over Florida, Texas and Mexico.

The sun darkened. The sky red at night. People pulling their cars over to look up.

Sign #9: People Living Carelessly, Like In Noah's Day

"For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage... And they were oblivious until the flood came and swept them all away. So will it be at the coming of the Son of Man."Matthew 24:38-39

Read that again, because it is the most frightening verse in the chapter, and it doesn't sound frightening at all.

Eating. Drinking. Weddings. Nothing evil in that list.

They weren't monsters. They were busy.

That's the warning. Not that people would be wicked in that hour, but that they would be occupied. Distracted. Scrolling. Booked solid. Meaning to get around to it.

Oblivious, until the flood came.

But there is something else about the days of Noah, and the reason most Christians have never heard it is that the book explaining it was taken out of their Bible.

Your Bible does say it. Four strange verses that almost everyone reads straight past.

"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and afterward as well—when the sons of God had relations with the daughters of men. And they bore them children who became the mighty men of old, men of renown."Genesis 6:4

Nephilim. Sons of God. Four verses, and then Genesis moves straight on to the ark.

The Book of Enoch does not move on. It spends chapters on it.

"And they were in all two hundred; who descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon."Enoch 6:6

Enoch counts them. Two hundred angels, called Watchers, who came down, took wives among men, and taught them what they were never meant to know: how to forge swords and shields, how to work metals, how to paint the face, sorcery and the cutting of roots.

And it tells you what came of it.

"And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants."Enoch 7:2

That is the world God flooded. Not a world of people who simply forgot to pray. A world that had been broken into.

And the same book records that God warned Noah before the rain, not after: "Go to Noah and tell him in my name 'Hide thyself!' and reveal to him the end that is approaching" (Enoch 10:2).

Jesus said the last days would be like the days of Noah. If you own the 66 books, you have four verses about those days. If you own Enoch, you have chapters.

Sign #10: His Return Will Be Sudden, And Everyone Will See It

"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven... They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."Matthew 24:30

No one will have to tell you. No preacher, no broadcast, no app.

"For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man."Matthew 24:27

And nobody gets a warning.

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father"Matthew 24:36

Not the pastors on television. Not the angels. No one.

Which is why He ends the chapter with an instruction instead of a date.

"For this reason, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect."Matthew 24:44

The Warning At The Very End Of The Bible

Turn to the last page of your Bible. The last words John writes are not comfort. They are a warning about the book itself.

"I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and the holy city."Revelation 22:18-19

Now, a careful reader will tell you that John was talking about the book of Revelation, and he is right. That is the honest reading.

But hold on to the principle, because it is not one verse. It is the whole Bible saying the same thing in three different centuries.

"You must not add to or subtract from what I command you."Deuteronomy 4:2

"Every word of God is flawless... Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you and prove you a liar."Proverbs 30:5-6

Moses said it. Solomon said it. John said it last of all, on the final page.

Do not add. Do not take away.

Now look at what happened in 1826.

Fourteen books sat in the King James Bible, bound in between the Old Testament and the New, under one heading: the Apocrypha. Here they are by name, the way your great great grandmother's Bible listed them.

1 Esdras. 2 Esdras. Tobit. Judith. The rest of Esther. The Wisdom of Solomon. Ecclesiasticus. Baruch, with the letter of Jeremiah. The Song of the Three Children. Susanna. Bel and the Dragon. The Prayer of Manasseh. 1 Maccabees. 2 Maccabees.

And they are not filler. Second Esdras is the book that spends whole chapters on the exact thing you have just read ten signs about: earthquakes and uproars among the people, the way of truth hidden, famine and plague called the beginning of sorrows, and a ruler nobody is expecting.

More detail about the last days than most of the books that were kept.

Then a committee of the British and Foreign Bible Society, meeting in London in 1826, resolved that not one penny of their money would ever print those fourteen books again. The American Bible Society fell in line two years later.

Their reasons? These books were not to be used to settle doctrine. And a Bible without them was cheaper to produce. Fewer pages. Less ink. Less binding. More copies for the same money.

In other words: not important enough.

Not important enough, after fourteen centuries in the Christian Bible. Not important enough, though Christians had read them since before the printing press existed. A handful of men in one room, one afternoon, one vote, and fourteen books were gone from every Bible those societies would ever fund.

Nobody asked the families in the pews. Nobody asked your grandmother. She was simply handed the smaller book, and so were you, and neither of you was ever told what was taken out of it.

How does any word of God become not important enough?

And there is one more, worse than all of it.

The Book of Enoch was dropped by the Western church a thousand years before that vote. It is the book Jude quotes by name. And it is the book where the exact title Jesus used for Himself more than any other, the Son of Man, appears page after page, seated on a throne of glory, coming in judgment.

The books with the most to say about His coming are the exact books missing from the Bible in your house.

There is one church on earth that never let a single one of them go. Not in 1826, not in 1611, not in any century since the Gospel first reached it in the book of Acts.

Ten Signs. One Chapter. And One Question.

Every one of those ten signs comes out of a single chapter of your Bible.

So here is the question almost nobody asks.

If Jesus gave us that much detail in one chapter, how much more did God say about these days in the rest of the books He gave His prophets?

And what if some of those books aren't in the Bible you were handed?

The 14 Books That Were Taken Out

Most Christians have never been told this, and it takes a minute to believe.

The original 1611 King James Bible did not have 66 books. It had 80.

And they were not new, and they were not hiding. Those same books were in the Greek Old Testament the apostles read from. They were in the Latin Bible of the entire Western church for a thousand years. They were in Luther's Bible. They were in the Geneva Bible the Pilgrims brought here.

Christians read them for more than fifteen hundred years. They sat in the family Bible for 215 straight years after 1611.

Then, in 1826, the British and Foreign Bible Society voted that not one penny of its money would ever again print them. The American Bible Society followed in 1828.

Two reasons were given.

That these books should not be used to settle doctrine.

And that a Bible without them was cheaper to print. Fewer pages. Less ink. Less binding. Millions more copies for the same money.

Fourteen books, cut out of the Bible to save paper. Nobody asked the families in the pews, and within one generation the 80-book Bible had quietly become the 66-book Bible that sits in your house today.

One of those removed books is called Second Esdras. Here is what it says about our days.

"The way of truth shall be hidden, and the land shall be barren of faith."2 Esdras 5:1

"The beginning of sorrows and great mournings; the beginning of famine and great death; the beginning of wars, and the powers shall stand in fear."2 Esdras 16:18

"The beginning of sorrows." Open a King James Bible to Matthew 24:8 and you will find those same four words coming out of the mouth of Jesus, word for word.

And Then There Is The Book Of Enoch

Enoch is the one that stops people cold, because it is quoted by name in the Bible you already own.

Open your own Bible to Jude and read the fourteenth verse.

"Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied about them: ‘Behold, the Lord is coming with myriads of His holy ones to execute judgment on everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of every ungodly act.’"Jude 1:14-15

Myriads is the modern word. Your King James puts it the old way: "ten thousands of his saints."

Now here is where it stops being a nice verse and starts being a problem.

Jude is quoting. He says so. And the book he is quoting is the Book of Enoch, chapter 1, verse 9.

"And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones to execute judgement upon all, and to destroy all the ungodly, and to convict all flesh of all the works of their ungodliness."Enoch 1:9

Read them one after the other. That is not a similar idea. That is the same sentence.

And look at what it is describing. Not a quiet, private return. The Lord coming with ten thousands of His holy ones, to judge everyone alive. Paul says the same thing in the 66 books: "at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints" (1 Thessalonians 3:13).

The clearest description in Scripture of that day is a quotation from a book that was cut out of your Bible.

And Jude is not alone.

Jude 6 speaks of "the angels who did not stay within their own domain," kept "in eternal chains under darkness, bound for judgment." Peter tells the same story: "God did not spare the angels when they sinned, but cast them deep into hell, placing them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment" (2 Peter 2:4).

Two apostles, referring to angels who fell, chained in darkness, waiting for judgment day, as if their readers already knew the account.

They did know it. That account is told in full in exactly one book: Enoch. Chapters six through sixteen, the Watchers, the oath on Mount Hermon, the giants, and the chains.

And in its very first chapter, Enoch says who he was writing for.

"Not for this generation, but for a remote one which is for to come."Enoch 1:2

The verse just before it calls his words a blessing for the righteous "who will be living in the day of tribulation."

A book, quoted in your Bible, that says out loud it was written for whoever is alive when these things begin. And it was never handed to you.

One Church Never Took Them Out

In 1947, in caves above the Dead Sea, shepherds found the oldest Bible manuscripts on earth. Among them were pieces of eleven separate copies of Enoch, and more than a dozen copies of Jubilees, hand-copied before Jesus was born.

They were never lost. They were only removed.

And in Ethiopia, the church that traces its faith to the official Philip baptized on the desert road in Acts chapter 8 never took a single one of them out.

How To Fight Back

Most people spend their time worrying about what might happen.
